Seeking justice for Haiti's rape victims

Three days after the massive earthquake in Haiti, there had been a lot of chaos going on. This issue that had been affecting a lot of women in Haiti is gang- raped. This one woman name Alvana who was a victim of rape said she was sleeping in the middle of the street when a gang of men came over and rape her and also got her pregnant. Alvana said she didn't know who the guys were and she felt depressed and unsure, later on that day she was directed to the clinic by a friend known as the KOFAVIV, it is a Creole acronym that translates into the Commission of Women Victims for Victims. They provided food, shelter, water, and prenatal care for her as she decided to keep her child, even though the psychological pain could be difficult, knowing her daughter was product by a gang raped.
Her story is, unfortunately, all too common in Haiti, said Mayla Villard- Appolon, one of KOFAVIV's co- founder. After the earthquake, the situation was inhumane and degrading, there was no security in the camps, no food, no work, and now there is a rampant problem (gang rape). This issue was going on since 2010, but after the earthquake it had gotten worst, and now the women want to put a end to it.
